Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the popular program coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get distracted by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Does the showrunner See the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
