Trump Calls Families of Shot Guard Soldiers to the White House
Former President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Support
Community members gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support public safety in Washington DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the individual that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Policy Changes
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the administration to suspend refugee claims and halt providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor mentioned on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had courage,” the governor informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
