The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable adjustments:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.
Community Responses: From Fury to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
