Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with results this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
