Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Propel Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The single was laid down after a major charity concert held in the autumn. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was omitted from the lengthy event due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby encompasses a range of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the earlier concert, which managed to collect a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of producers and composers. The single features a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the campaign have clarified that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a representative said. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the area was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of buildings said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million won't make that much difference. But I think what truly matters is first of all making this cause better known and proving there’s another side to the story.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from mid-December.
